The Miskito people are a native group in Central America, primarily residing in the coastal regions of Honduras and Nicaragua. They have a rich history and cultural heritage, with a population estimated at 700,000 to 800,000 as of 2021. The Miskito territory extends from Cape Camarón, Honduras, to Río Grande de Matagalpa, Nicaragua, along the Mosquito Coast. The Miskito are known for their autonomy and empire during European colonization and invasion, as well as their resistance against monarchies and colonizers. The Miskito culture is based on the stewardship of the Earth, and they are subsistence people who live off the Earth's bounty. The Miskito people continue to fight for their sovereignty and proper land stewardship, particularly in the face of environmental challenges. They have also been influenced by European contacts and have a strong tradition of oral history and cultural heritage. The Miskito Indians fiercely protect their rainforests and campaign for their rights to protect their land
The Miskito people, also known as the Miskito Tribe, have a historical relationship with the English, particularly during the 17th and 18th centuries. English privateers and buccaneers made informal alliances with the Miskito, and the Miskito Kingdom was established with the support of the English. The Miskito people maintained cultural traits acquired during the pre-colonial and colonial era, and the English influence led to the creation of a position of a king, although the modern king has little power and generally does not affect the different tribes. The Miskito and the British were engaged in a military and economic alliance from 1687 to 1894. The historical relationship between the Miskito and the British involved alliances, trade, and military cooperation, but it does not involve England joining the Miskito Tribe in the contemporary sense.
